About this product

Product Information

The 200 recipes in this family-friendly collection deliver a revolution in slow cooking like only America's Test Kitchen can! Who doesn't like the idea of throwing ingredients into a slow cooker and coming back hours later to a finished meal? Too bad most slow cooker recipes deliver mediocre results you'd rather forget than fix again. A team of ten test cooks at America's Test Kitchen spent a year developing recipes, and what they discovered will change the way you use your slow cooker. Did you know that onions garlic, and spices should be bloomed in the microwave for five minutes before they go into the slow cooker? This simple step intensifies their flavor and requires no extra work. Did you know that a little soy sauce mixed with tomato paste adds meaty flavors to almost any stew and can often replace the tedious step of browning the meat? And do you know the secret to a moist slow-cooker chicken? Start the bird upside down to protect the delicate white meat from drying out.

ATK- THANK you for making me love my Slow Cooker!

This book and the 2nd volume are excellent. They take Slow Cooker cooking and revolutionize it. No longer does everything taste like mush with cooked out flavors. America's test kitchen freshens the process with a little microwave, a little spice revamping... it's delicious.

  • 5-Star Rating -- Taste by Delicious Taste!

Bought this after using a friend's copy to make pulled pork. (Nearly destroyed a similar cut using an on-line recipe--who comes up with this stuff?! Less said about that hot mess, the better.) Thus far, no complaints. Recipes are well-researched/tested; preparation instructions are straightforward. Additional information is provided about certain grocery products used. Slow cooker product testing is interesting too. However, my non-featured slow cooker delivers great dishes. Which is the whole point. Book delivers everything it promises. After my on-line recipe debacle, well-written, tested recipes are wonderful. Shared a few recipes with a friend, a wonderful cook. She loves them. NOTE: When experienced cooks rave about slow cooker recipes, you know your instincts are sound. And that this ...

  • If you want good slow cooker food, this book is the alpha and omega.

I have been a long time fan of America's Test Kitchen and have at least a dozen of their other cookbooks. I have purchased other slow cooker cookbooks but none of those (in my opinion) start the recipe with the end in mind. It clearly states what the end product should be before they built it. I ended up purchasing the recommended slow cooker, because the one I had was pretty old and it tended to boil everything. Not a pretty site. I have tried a couple of the recipes already and the flavor and results have been consistent with the intended results. Many people (including myself at one time) just wanted to throw everything in at one time and this book gives one good reason not to. Do try the ribs, fabluous.

  • Great recipes for making dinner in your slow cooker.

We love, love, love this book. We've tried several recipes so far in our new slow cooker and will use them again! The latest was the spinach lasagna...it rates very high with me and my husband. The recipes are very easy to understand and create. We highly recommend this book if you want to utilize your slow cooker.

  • Cheap, delicious food. Who can argue with that? Set the timer and go!

When you come home from a hard day at work, or even "Zooming" all over the place, you should only have to care for your pet(s) and open a nice drink...take the lid off of the pot and enjoy comfort food. Mangie.
