About this product

Product Information

Richard Feynman, winner of the Nobel Prize in physics, thrived on outrageous adventures. Here he recounts in his inimitable voice his experience trading ideas on atomic physics with Einstein and Bohr and ideas on gambling with Nick the Greek; cracking the uncrackable safes guarding the most deeply held nuclear secrets; accompanying a ballet on his bongo drums; painting a naked female toreador. In short, here is Feynman's life in all its eccentric--a combustible mixture of high intelligence, unlimited curiosity, and raging chutzpah.

Reviews
Feynman is legendary among his colleagues for his brilliance and his eccentricity.... It's hard not to smile all the way through., A chain reaction is not a bad analogy for Feynman's life. From a critical mass of gray matter it goes off in all directions, producing both heat and light., A storyteller in the tradition of Mark Twain. He proves once again that it is possible to laugh out loud and scratch your head at the same time.

I was a student at Havana University in 1969 when a visiting professor from Portugal told me about these Feynman Lectures on Physics that he was sure I would enjoy reading. He added that he saw a few of those books in the Physics School Library. Only Volume II was available, and I took out this red book, never to return it. After that, I read anything from Feynman I could get my hands on. I was already becoming his fan when I got to” Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!”, that did it.

  • Entertaining book about and interesting guy.

Feynman was one of the biggest names in physics in the last century. His autobiography provides an interesting glimpse into the mind of a brilliant man. My girlfriend found him to be arrogant at times, and I have to agree, but his exuberant joy at puzzle solving was so clear that, to my mind, it more than made up for this flaw. I was struck by how little he talked about his marriages. I would have found that enormously interesting. How does a super-genius relate to women? Read this book after watching an interview or two with Feynman and you'll have the added pleasure of imagining him actually speaking. Here's an excellent example: http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/richard_feynman.html
