"Well, first of all," said the BFG, "human beans is not really believing in giants, is they? Human beans is not thinking we exist." Sophie discovers that giants not only exist, but that there are a great many of them who like to guzzle and swallomp nice little chiddlers. But not the Big Friendly Giant. He and Sophie cook up an ingenious plot to free the world of troggle-humping -- forever. Performed by Natasha Richardson

Roald Dahl is your first author to hook a reluctant reader.

i couldn't understand why my new Grandson didn't like to be read to, even as an infant. Turns out he had ADHD. So when his parents were deployed and we moved to take care of him, I started reading to him when my husband would drive. We started w/ Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It wasn't too long before he'd implore me to read every time we got in the car! So we've now done the Great Glass Elevator, the BFG, and are on Danny. If you have a reluctant reader, Roald Dahl is your first author to go to!

  • The BFG

Roald Dahl is such an entertaining author. The BFG is an excellent teaching tool for the English Language. He uses many idioms in the funniest way. The kids get such a kick out of it. I'm a 5th/6th grade tacher. I used this book as a class novel last year and the kids loved it. We read it together as a class and every day I gave the kids parts so they all got a chance to read. The only drawback is that the language is too difficult for many of the to read on their own. A lot of the humor and irony would be lost on many young readers. It was a fun way to introduce Roald Dahl. After The BFG we read Matilda as a class novel (they coud do this one independently)and the kids loved it. They had the hang of Roald Dahl and his humor.

  • Great book! Lots of laughs and a cute story for kids!

This is a great book By Roald Dahl(author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) about a Big Friendly Giant who brings dreams into the human world after everyone is asleep. He meets a little girl named Sophie on his late-night excursions. The BFG kidnaps her and brings her to the land of the giants, where she soon discovers that the other giants are big, but not at all friendly. She learns that the other giants all sneak into the human world and gobble up human being, or human "beans" as the giants call them. Sophie and the giant concoct a plan to stop the giants, and pay a visit to the queen of England to enlist her help. With the help of the British army, they capture the giants and lock them up, so they will never trouble the earth again. The BFG lives in England, and learns to read and ...

  • Great Book for grades 3rd - 7th grade

The BFG is a fun, creative book that you won't want to put down. It is very descriptive and allows the reader to picture what is happening. I highly recommend this book.
