I HAVE USED THESE FOR YEARS

Generally, these are server pulls, where the drives are pulled on a schedule. This depends on the company selling the drives and what they do on their service contracts. I have sold these to customers for years and they are price effective for personal use or small companies. These drives were purchased for a small company, to be used on a schedule of backups done weekly. This means the up-time on the drives are less. I have 2 of these server pulls that I purchased from a company in NY City that does the maintenance on a schedule. I have 2 of this type drive used in our business for backup that are 6 years old and still working great. They can fail like any other HDD but we have had new Server rated HDD's that failed in less than a year. They were 4 or 5 times the cost of these. Our ...

    HDD Failure?

After almost a couple weeks of receiving the drive, it is no longer being recognized by Windows or any operating system I use. I tried different SATA ports, cables and even used a SATA to USB Adapter to see if it would be recognized. None have worked. I can hear the drive spinning, but no data was being read or written to it. Before, when transferring data, there was a distinct sound but it did not bother me as much. Unfortunately now I'm stuck with a hard drive with important data in it that is not recognized by Windows.

  • Multiple Failed Drives

I bought this product to replace a drive in a server. When the first one failed I requested a new one. After a little bit, I finally got them to send me a second drive and it also failed. Eventually I ended up ordering all kinds of parts to troubleshoot with and then a hard drive from another place. Weeks of frustration, being short a drive in a server and purchasing all kinds of unnecessary parts later I returned the two failed drives, which did not appear new. It took requesting a refund two days after they received the drives back to actually get the refund. I did give them 2 stars because they did respond and took care of at least the payment, which is more than I can say for some.

  • Good enough for the intended purpose.

I'll say straightout that I avoid Seagate hard drives like I do STDs. This brand, and its lookalike, Western Digital, have accounted for almost all my miseries with hard drive failures, most often at the most inconvenient times. However, my purpose for this drive is as a backup drive in my backup computer, so, even if it lives up to my previous experiences, I won't be left in the lurch. With this provision, I decided to take the almost certain risk that it'll fail within a year or so and get it for a necessary expansion of space. I'd NEVER rely on it or any other Seagate for any critical use.

  • Good extra SATA hard drive

A lot of drive for such a low price. Not so sure to use it as my main main drive, but if you need back up, using for budget builds, and not critical data applications this was a good driver. No bad sectors or reports. I am sure the seller is very good picking error free drives to send.
