About this product

Product Information

One simple idea can set you free: Don't take on a problem if it isn't yours One of the most liberating books in the extraordinary One Minute Manager Library teaches managers an unforgettable lesson: how to have time to do what they want and need to do. The authors tell why managers who accept every problem given them by their staffs become hopeless bottlenecks. With a vivid, humorous, and too familiar scenario they show a manager loaded down by all the monkeys that have jumped from their rightful owners onto his back. Then step by step they show how managers can free themselves from doing everyone else's job and ensure that every problem is handled by the proper staff person. By using Oncken's Four Rules of Monkey Management managers will learn to become effective supervisors of time, energy, and talent -- especially their own. If you have ever wondered why you are in the office on the weekends and your staff is on the golf course, The One Minute Manager Meets the Monkey is for you. It's priceless

    Great for future managers

This book provides applicable, relatable, and humorous examples of common pitfalls of management, especially taking on work that is not your own. The book doesn't focus on giving all your work to others but allowing them the chance to grow through the process of coaching. I am not a manager myself but can find these lessons applicable to any group that I am a part of, even if I have no formal leadership role.

  • "Detaching" the Monkey

"The One Minute Manager Meets the Monkey" provided good information for managers on prioritizing and delegating job duties to his/her employees. This work is good for those managers having difficulty "managing monkeys" (taking on job responsibilities that belong to his/her employees). It explains the need for managers to "detach" monkey's from their backs and give them to their rightful owners (employees), so that the managers can handle their own monkeys (or job responsibilities). The work is a very easy read; however the reader may become bored approximately halfway through the work as the second half of the book tends to repeat what was said in the first half. Overall it provides some good advice for those managers struggling with managing their employees and their own job duties.

  • Very useful

Great book that shines light on all the extra tasks we as servant managers put on our backs.
