  • The Rebels of Ireland

Very well written book. Author continued his narrative of Irish History in folllowing several old Irish families and the outside influences of the British Empire. Edward Rutherford interwoven the families while telling Ireland's history and her need to be republic despite England's jaundiced view that the Irish were animals that needed to be tamed or exterminated. Rutherford did not dwell on any given rebel while in the prequel "The Princes of Ireland" he spent considerable time on Brian Boru. The only thing I did not care about The Rebels of Ireland is he mentioned Michael Collins with the IRA but in 1916 he stood with other brave Irish in 1916 at the Easter Uprising at the GPO and also fought against the British Black and Tans until the British called for a truce and he negotiated for ...

  • Princes of Ireland The Dublin Saga

Edward Rutherfurd is a wonderful author who writes incredible historical novels that are part fiction and part non-fiction. There are two books in this set. One is entitled the above and the other is called Ireland Awakening. However be careful because the covers are similar when looking for the second you will need to check the dates it continues on from and the chapter headings, because there are two different printings out there which can be confusing. I made the mistake thinking I had the second copy and when I received it found that the person who sold it to me did not tell me the difference. Over and above that the books were/are very enlightening on Irish history where all the strife and conflict came and originated from and how it relates today. If you haven't read any of this ...

  • Understading Aspects of Irish History-A Must Have

Nice companion to The Princes of Ireland. I am in the process of reading the book and am enjoying it very much!! The history, culture (though not at much of this as in Princes), names and places are worth a "search" to dig deeper. It's a large book to get through with my limited free time, but very worth the read. It's "life", all aspects of it, good, bad, honesty, deceit, corruption, love, temptation.......you name it. Very glad I purchased the book. If you love, Irish history, it's a must have in helping to understand the English/Irish, Catholic/Protestant relationship throughout the centuries.

  • Political, social, religious, etc. ....princes.

Shows solid evidence of the RC pope's pushing the bloody British to continuously assault the Irish. If Brian Boru's followers (en scene and historically) had not loved fighting each other so much, they could have pushed the Brits back to Normandy.
