About this product

Product Information

No limit hold 'em is exploding in popularity. Before 2000, it could be difficult to find a game. In 2006, it is played everywhere - in casino cardrooms, in backrooms and homes, and on the Internet. Now anyone can find a game, but few know how to play well. Most players learn by watching television or by listening to dubious advice from their friends. While they may have picked up a valuable tidbit here or there, most players have two options: wise up or go broke. The world's foremost poker theorist, David Sklansky, and noted poker authority, Ed Miller, will wise you up quickly. No Limit Hold 'em: Theory and Practice is the definitive work on this complex game. It provides you a window into the heads of experts, teaching you in straightforward and enjoyable terms the how's and why's of winning play. Book jacket.

  • Hard to engaged in the book as a poker amateur

I purchased this because I was considering going to play a poker cash game at local casino for the first time. I had practiced extensively online against other players before purchasing this, but I found that as an amateur, I had a hard time staying engaged in this book. I was overwhelmed by how much the first part of the book relies on talking about calculating mathematical formulas. If you play poker for a living, I can see how this book would be vital, and you'd have a strong motivation to read it all. All I can say is I started to overthink my poker games after reading the first third of this book, and I can't compel myself to read beyond the halfway point of the book because it's such a boring read.

  • Serious poker book

Not the best beginner book, it may put you on tilt with the amount and depth of information if you do not have decent poker experience. Currently my favorite poker book. The book is packed with info. Int- long time players can learn from this book. I refer to it often. Worth the money, well written, and useable information. Primary focus is no-limit, pot odds play, hand psychology, and hand statistics. I am a good intermediate player, this book helped my game a lot. I recommend "Buy". Good luck to you.

  • new guy becomes respected "casher"

I learned to play Holdem about six months ago. This book was loaned to me when I could barely remember what beats what. I play weekly with a group of half regulars and half "sometimers". The only training I received was the advice of my friendly competitors, this book and watching poker on TV. I'm currently reaching the top 3 more than 50% of the time. Basically learning for free. I bought my own copy because I'm reading it again and am learning different things as I go through it a second time. Poker is not a simple game. Why consult a simple book?

  • A seminal how-to manual on becoming a competitive NLHE player.

No Limit Hold'em has changed a lot since this book was printed in 2006, and this book is part of the reason why. It is easily a top-five NLHE strategy book and is arguably a top-three. Buyer beware--this is not a beginner's manual! Look elsewhere for that information. This book is for intermediate or advanced players who either want to fix the holes in their games or who want to become better players in general.

  • you need this book !

all the facts of good poker knowledge is here...to be forewarned is to be forearmed !
