About this product

Product Information

In this thrill-filled live-action Marvel Comics adaptation, director Tim Story (BARBERSHOP) balances comedy, romantic intrigue, special effects, high action, and even scientific trivia for a rounded FANTASTIC FOUR. Here, Mister Fantastic (Ioan Gruffudd), Invisible Woman (Jessica Alba), The Human Torch (Chris Evans), and The Thing (Michael Chiklis) come together on a space mission that goes wrong. The ship's owner (Julian McMahon)--who later transforms into evil Doctor Doom--refuses to abort the mission during a solar storm, which electrifies the ship and its entire crew, causing radical changes to their DNA. Back on earth, the transformed "heroes" adjust to their new powers, which are specific to their personalities. Mister Fantastic, who lacks assertion, has stretchy limbs of rubber. Invisible Woman, who loves Fantastic but thinks he can't see her for who she really is, does a disappearing act. The Human Torch, an immature guy who is brimming with energy, can burst into flames. And finally, The Thing, a great friend who is as solid as a rock, actually turns into one--and loses his wife due to his weighty disposition. Holing up in Fantastic's scientific lab where they run experiments on themselves in hopes of changing back to normal, the crew learns that Doctor Doom--who is so power hungry that he turns into metal and is able to conduct electrical currents--poses a serious threat. The heroes quickly master their abilities and channel their scientific smarts for one truly fantastic five-way face-off.Visually, action sequences give way to tranquil interludes such as the New York City skyline with the Fantastics' lab glowing atop a skyscraper, while plot-wise, the interplay between the characters brings a human element to the film, with some touching moments from The Thing. At the end, a door is left open for what could be a super sequel.

    Family Fun

I haven't read comic books since I was a kid, and I mostly watched the movie to see Ioan Gruffudd as Mr Fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised that I actually enjoyed the movie. It was more about introducing the characters and how they became the way they were...and I enjoyed the humor between the characters.

  • Good Thru-out, Prelude 2 Sequel; Last 30 Mins. R Great!

The Fantastic 4 is a awesome movie; it has great special effects, great fighting scenes, great character chemistry, a great storyline, & it even has great humor, which I must say is hard to find N a sci-fi movie - none of the other comic book movies has even an ounce of it. When Victor Von Doom finances a trip to space, everything goes wrong with the advent of an unexpected cosmic storm and being bombarded with super high levels of radiation changes the 5 passengers forever. Heroes: Reed Richards(Mr. Fantastic) gains the ability based on the incredible strength, durability, and stretching ability of plastic; he is also the leader. Ben Grimm(Thing) becomes this hideous, but super strong and invulnerable rock monster. Johnny Storm gains the ability to heat his body up to super ...

  • Set aside what you know

Marvel's second attempt to bring the Fantastic Four to the big screen is a much better ride than I had anticipated. The story is written much like a comic book with comic book situations created (Johnny Storm's flame goes out of control as he careens into a snow bank, resulting in an instant hot-tub. "Care to join me?" he asks the cute nurse he's flirting with.) As a life-long comics fan, I was concerned more with how Dr. Doom was presented. Tim Story nailed the FF- no question about it. Yes, even Jessica Alba was good as Sue. Michael Chiklis was a great choice for Ben Grimm. Doom was my one dissappointment in this film. In the comics, Dr. Doom is the supreme sovreign of Latveria. He is the son of gypsies who were persecuted by the Nazis in World War II. He has a genuis rivaled only by his ...

  • Big comic movie fan a bit disappointed

I guess the problem I have with the movie is that while the characters of Ben Grimm/Thing and Johnny Storm/Human Torch are developed pretty well according to the comic books, Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic and Sue Storm/Invisible Girl are thinner than they are in the comics, which is already less three-dimensional than the first two characters. However, the comics always made up for this lack of character development by the sheer magnitude of the plot. Just the size of the machinery in Richards' inner sanctum in the comics was not matched in the movie. What Richards lacked in character depth he made up for with the conspicuous genius of his daily operation. You would forgive him for being impersonal because that's what's expected of such a brilliant mind. Richards in the movie just doesn't ...

  • FANTASTIC FOUR: A Fantastic Bore

It's so bad it takes points away from BATMAN BEGINS. Rabid fans of the comics and animated television series... myself included, was and will be sorely disappointed to see their beloved superheroes ridiculously portrayed, and even worse, directed like wooden idiots on the big screen. For the rest of us, it was pure hell. Get this! Only one of the Fantastic Four is happy to have superpowers. The others grumble and complain. What makes them so fantastic? I’ll never pick up a FANTASTIC FOUR comic book again. Right from the start the movie smells like a stinker because of its Z-grade casting. Worst of all is Julian McMahon, overacting as a Kevin Spacy-ish Dr. Doom. It looks as if someone tried hard on this film, and then just gave up about halfway through it, or perhaps the studio was afraid ...
