Daly is credited with inventing the "hard-boiled" genre of detective fiction with his story The False Burton Combs, published in Black Mask in 1922. The first printing of the first edition. Original blue-green cloth hardback. 310 pages. Original endpapers, with small "Brentano's New York Booksellers" label to rear endpaper. The book is in very attractive condition with bright titles, and some bumping to the edges (all shown in the pictures). Internally clean and bright. Free of inscriptions. Binding sound and square. An unusually nice example of the first printing.”
