  • Tai-Pan by James Clavell

Tai-Pan starts its story in 1841 with the founding of Hong Kong. The main character Dirk Struan, otherwise known as Tai-Pan, is a China Trader and head of The Noble House, the leading trading company in the orient at that time. Based on real history, it tells a very exciting and interesting tale of the cut-throat competition between the China Traders at that time. They put everything on the line each trading season. They smuggle opium, trade in tea, silks, and anything else that can show a profit. The main rival of Dirk Struan is Tyler Brock, an obsessed man that would do absolutely anything to bring down the Noble House. The book is full of interesting characters, suach as: May May, Struan's Chinese mistress, a collection of China Traders, the Govenor, Military and Naval men, and a host ...

  • Gifted!

James Clavell is a gifted astute writer versed in the History of Japan and the Orient culture like no other. The man spent time in a P.O.W. camp actually and then wrote a book about it also. Many twists and turns in his stories, you revel in how this man's mind works, he is so brilliant in his details.
