    For reminicing

    For one who grew up and later worked in San Francisco, this well-documented history of the city's retail district is sheer pleasure, a chance to re-visit the elegant experience of shopping in stores that offered merchandise to fulfill every desire. The mention of bygone and beloved restaurants described in loving and accurate detail, was such a tease.......if only one could return to partake. The book is wonderful, a virtual return to an era of gentility. My kingdom for a slice of Blum's Coffee Crunch Cake or a bowl of Townsend's Creamed Spinach!
