About this product

Product Information

In the fourth novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series featuring everyone's favorite wizard for hire, Harry Dresden is suckered into the tangled--and dangerous--affairs of Faerie... Ever since his girlfriend left town to deal with her newly acquired taste for blood, Harry Dresden has been down and out in Chicago. He can't pay his rent. He's alienating his friends. He can't even recall the last time he took a shower. The only professional wizard in the phone book has become a desperate man. And just when it seems things can't get any worse, in saunters the Winter Queen of Faerie. She has an offer Harry can't refuse if he wants to free himself of the supernatural hold his faerie godmother has over him--and hopefully end his run of bad luck. All he has to do is find out who murdered the Summer Queen's right-hand man, the Summer Knight, and clear the Winter Queen's name. It seems simple enough, but Harry knows better than to get caught in the middle of faerie politics. Until he finds out that the fate of the entire world rests on his solving this case. No pressure or anything...

Praise for the Dresden Files "Think Buffy the Vampire Slayer starring Philip Marlowe."-- Entertainment Weekly "Fans of Laurell  K. The supporting cast is again fantastic, and Harry's wit continues to fly in the face of a peril-fraught plot."-- Booklist (starred review)   "What's not to like about this series'...It takes the best elements of urban fantasy, mixes it with some good old-fashioned noir mystery, tosses in a dash of romance and a lot of high-octane action, shakes, stirs, and serves."-- SF Site   "A tricky plot complete with against-the-clock pacing, firefights, explosions, and plenty of magic. Great story about magic and mythical creatures set in modern times.

I am new to the books. Loved the short TV production of The Dresden Files. I just recently decided to look up the books and love the authors style. They are easy to read, not sure I would say "compelling" but certainly fast paced and exciting. I enjoy the author's Harry and Harry's sense of humor. It's a delightful read for those that like fantasy. As I said before its an easy read. Not quite as intense and serious as other books I've read, but maybe that is why I'm finding them so delightful. I'm looking forward to reading the whole series. Thank you Jim Butcher for a great way to pass time during the pandemic !

  • The Nevernever is never dull!

I liked the story the least of the series so far. I still enjoyed it though! It's just very complicated and there are a lot of characters to follow and remember. There is a battle among the fairies in Nevernever and Harry Dresden, the detective and only wizard in Chicago, gets caught literally in the middle. Several characters from the earlier books show back up here and we learn a little more about Dresden and his wizard training as he was growing up an orphan. We learn more about his mother who seems to be the one with the powers that were passed to Dresden. The book is good afterall but a little harder to read than the earlier books. The author has a lot to say and it gets a little scrambled, but he works it all out in the end as does Dresden!

  • Summer Knight Review

If you liked the first few Dresden Files, you'll love Summer Knight. If you've never read any of the Dresden Files, you'll love Summer Knight.

  • Summer Knight

Harry Dresden, Wizard and investigator of things paranormal is at it again! I love this series of books. The series gets to me as I am a professional Magician and can relate to the Dresden character. I am a fan of the hard boiled private investigator type and Dresden is the Wizard version of Robert Parker's Spenser. He is a wise-cracking individual with a soft spot for chivalry and the fair sex. He gets himself into situations that keep him in constant danger and luckily has friends that will come to his aid. Where Spenser has Hawk, Dresden has Bob. Hawk is Spenser's helping muscle where Dresden's Bob helps with knowledge as he is not physical...he is a spirit in a skull. I warn you...read one book and you will find yourself hooked for all of the books.
