  • Something's Gotta Give

Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton are charming in this humorous love story about two intelligent, if not totally romantically centered, members of the middle-age set (toward the older end of the range). Diana Keaton has never been better. This was finally her perfect role. Jack Nicholson was cast in a part that could have been written especially for him. Erica Barry (Keaton) a successful middle-aged playwright who has emotionally and sexually closed herself off after divorcing her husband of 22 years (Paul Michael Glaser, still looking pretty good himself), meets the older man in her young daughter Marin's (Amanda Peet) life. This meeting marked by sudden, unexpected attack of the heart exposes her to successful entrepreneur and playboy Harry Sanborn (Nicholson). Sanborn has 'played at ...

  • Don't watch this film with a critical eye; just enjoy it.

Jack Nicholson plays his usual sort of character, and Diane Keaton plays her usual sort of character. Keanu Reeves is his usual forgettable but good-looking self, playing a character who lacks any believability. It's a feel-good film that is fine enough to watch unless you start to get critical about the whole premise, in which case it falls apart VERY quickly. So, don't get critical about it; watch these characters do their thing the way they know best, have a beer or a glass of wine, relax, and just enjoy the film. I doubt you'll learn much about yourself or about human nature from watching this film, but it has its clever lines and you won't regret the time spent.

  • pass the vomit bag, please

The movie was a good concept but executed terribly. Most of it does not focus on one character. Instead it puts all the characters as important. Then when it goes into full plot you sympathize with Erica. The intent might have been to make Harry aloof, but he comes off as a despicable, creepy, old man. You want Erica to be with the younger doctor. By the time the movie takes a turn and follows Harry as the main character, it's too late to get attached. You don't hate him anymore, you just don't care. Then, for some reason, Erica & the doctor break up and she is with Harry. The only reason anyone would want to see this film is to get a glimpse of Diane Keaton semi nude. The DVD has little in features. 2 commentaries.

  • Something's Gotta Give

Excellent movie with excellent actors. Jack Nicholson is fantastic, as always, as an older never-been-married womanizer. Diane Keaton is marvelous as Jack's latest conquest's high strung mother. When a heart attack puts Jack in Diane's home for a few days, sparks fly (bad AND good). Keanu Reeves is great as Jack's doctor. If you like Jack or Diane, you'll LOVE this movie. I believe Jack won an Oscar for his role. A must-have movie for any fan of Jack.
