About this product

Product Information

One of the premier chroniclers of our nation's turbulent frontier history, Allan W. Ecker now presents another spellbinding chapter in the conquest of the American wilderness.  Here is the powerful, compellingly human story of the white man's struggle to claim the rich land of the Northern Mississippi--ancestral home of the Fox and Sac tribes--from the legendary war chief Black Hawk.  Having killed his first enemy at sixteen.  This proud, brooding warrior extends a hand in friendship to the Spanish and the British, but harbors a lifelong hatred for the Americans, who once burned his home village.  Now charged by the president himself, the ambitious governor of Illinois Territory leads a brave and illustrious group of settlers and soldiers to wrest the beautiful land from a nation of destiny and a noble chieftain fated to be betrayed by his own kind.

Fast delivery, book seems old and well used. Love the author who is Allan Eckert. He writes historical narratives and I love history. These books are based on facts that he has researched by old journals, legal papers, personal letters. I would recommend anyone to read one of his books, especially if your a history buff.

  • Twilight of Empire by Allan W. Eckert

Last in a six book series. Definitely one of the best series of books I have ever read on American history 1700 to 1850. How author did all the research over the years, is outstanding. Excellent foot notes in back of each book and in numerical order, not by chapter, for easy reference. Highly recommend this series of books to anyone that is interested in early American history pertaining to the French, British, American Indian, and American' themselves.

Not as good as " Dark and Bloody River" . Just my opinion, didn`t hold my attention maybe because I live where the " Dark and Bloody River" took place?
