  • Great translation of an excellent classic.

Hesiod is often looked upon as the "other" ancient Greek poet. Homer, of course, being the more famous one. Although Hesiod's works don't really stand up against the artistic merit of Homer's Iliad, they are still important reading. A lot of the mythology within the Greek tradition comes from Hesiod. Socrates often mentions him in several of Plato's dialogues. Plus, his only two extant works are short, so it takes a very small investment of time to read them. Should be mandatory reading, if just for its historical importance.
