About this product

Product Information

1991 saw the emergence of the Grunge scene coming out of Seattle and spear-headed by Nirvana. Their first album, Nevermind, toppled Michael Jackson's Dangerous and sold over ten million copies. Their second album, In Utero (which was originally banned due to its cover image), established Nirvana and lead singer, Kurt Cobain. In April 1994, Cobain ended his own life amid much speculation and disbelief. Rolling Stone magazine had followed Nirvana from its early club beginnings and this book charts its haunting images, the band's rise, the untimely death of Cobain, and aftermath of Nirvana.

  • Kurt Cobain, 90s Grunge Icon, Life and Death of Music

Kurt Cobain, a rock legend in his lifetime and immortalised by his death at 27. He was a reluctant spokesman for a generation, and his band, Nirvana, their music and lifestyle, revived people's faith in rock 'n roll. Musically, Nirvana were hugely influential in the history of rock 'n roll and brought it kicking, spitting and screaming into the 90s. This collection, from the editors of Rolling Stone magazine, brings together interviews, articles, reviews and tributes, as well as an astonishing collection of photographs and illustrations, providing insights and understanding into the life and music of Cobain - his passion, his charm and his vision. The tragedy that was Kurt Cobain's life and death, both musically and personally, is starkly, and lovingly, portrayed.

  • beautiful and non-melodramatic.

I don't yet own this book but I intend to. I flicked through it in bookshops several times a few years ago and it's layout is beautiful. I loved the integration of fan art, some of Cobain's art and the stylized presentation. Some of the un-released photographs are really good as well. I would rate this as a must-have for fans who want to read about Kurt Cobain without reading any of the mythical, melodramatic tragedy crap that is often written about him. Kurt was into art, not melodrama and this book is a great testament to that.

  • Sentimental book
