Excellent OTG/OTE welding glasses.
There are not many options for OTG welding glasses. All of them have their drawbacks but these are the best ones I've tried so far. They'll fit glasses with a double bridge and they hug your head nicely. The only drawback with these is that they let in a lot of light from the top corners. That is easily fixed by wearing a hat. OTG welding glasses that look halfway decent seem to be hard to find so I'll list the others that I know of, here. MSA Clearvue IR. Model No 10012847 Jackson Safety or KleenGuard. Model No 21917 Bolle Override. Shade 5 is Model No 40056 Uvex sizes and shades are the following model numbers Large, shade 3 is Model No S3153 Large, shade 5 is Model No S3155 Medium, shade 3 is Model No S3163 Medium, shade 5 is Model No S3165 Pyramex is the last brand. Some good qualities, but are they well made, enough to protect as they should? Not confident about that.
These glasses fit well over my prescription glasses, and keep out the sun's glare much better than the faceshield I was using before. But on the first day of use, sparks from the plasma cutter burned through the dark coating and left clear spots. I'm not an experienced plasma cutter, average two hours per week for one year, but it seems like the front coating should be more resilient than that. It gives me questions about the protective qualities of the glasses too. The view is very clear, which I like, but If they are cheaply made, for example, are they providing as much protection as a #5 shade should? I'd rather not take chances with my eyesight. If it costs 10 more dollars to get hypertherm goggles, which I'm more confident about, it's well worth it.
