The Waterboys were formed in London in 1981 and led by the singer/songwriter Mike Scott, the group's only constant member - with the supporting musicians ever changing around him. 1988's Fisherman's Blues is the Waterboys's 4th album for which the band were joined by traditional Irish players like fiddler Steve Wickham, drummer Dave Ruffy, keyboardist Guy Chambers and bassist Marco Weissman, resulting in a stripped-down, folky sound which was a marked step away from the 'big music' he founded and pursued in previous albums. It has been called their 'warmest and most rewarding record'. Complete with a bonus disc of 14 previously unreleased tracks and packaged in a digipack with pvc slipcase - it follows on from the successful re-issues of the first 3 Waterboys's albums 'The Waterboys', 'A Pagan Place' and 'This Is the Sea'. EMI.

Fisherman's Blues-The Waterboys
I bought this CD on the strength of the song'Fisherman's Blues' that my favorite radio station played frequently. I was pleased to discover the rest of the CD was also very enjoyable. So much so, I have sent two copies I bought on Half.com to friends who have also enjoyed it. I like the album because of it's eclectic influences from celtic to American folk and rock. In a world filled with too much corporate McMusic, it's refreshing to hear something unique and original as this.I bought this CD on the strength of the song'Fisherman's Blues' that my favorite radio station played frequently. The band mixes traditional Celtic sounds with folk, and rock and roll; this gives the band a very unique, complete and interesting sound. This is a beautiful album that I would describe as a musical fairytale, full of myths, legends and times of old. I think this is the finest album in the bands catalogue, and is perfect for rainy days and starry summer nights.
