Product Information

This Lifetime TV movie concerns a shocking event in a peaceful village of Amish farmers. A small child is found dead, and the locals cannot decide whether it was caused by nefarious means, or if it was a simple accident. Ellie Harrison (Mariska Hargitay) is the lawyer in charge of getting to the bottom of the mystery, while also defending her client, Katie (Alison Pill), who is the mother charged with murdering her own offspring. Katie insists she never even gave birth to the baby, despite evidence to the contrary, and Ellie finds this and other revelations to be an eye-opening surprise as she attempts to blend in with the Amish community. An intelligent thriller that tackles a number of pertinent issues, THE PLAIN TRUTH was one of the most-watched films on cable in 2004.

    Lifetime original movie 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

    This is a great movie . I dont wanna give the details or plot completely away but this is set on an amish farm in amish country and involves the murder of a baby... gives a somewhat realistic look at amish life and belief in forgiveness . Its pretty sad and very dramatic but isnt that what us women seek in lifetime movies? This is anything but boring but not really for the average man

    The Plain Truth~Amish Way

    The Plain Truth revolves around a PA Amish group. A single 18 year old girl is accused of murdering her newborn baby. Though the Amish don't trust outsiders an "outsider" lawyer is the only hope to find justice for this girl. Mariska Hargitay as the lawyer gives a very convincing performance as she deals with the Amish way of life...no electricity, cell phones, or computers. Big city vs Amish way of life leads to a quite an entertaining film.

    Mariska Hargitay Shines

    Excellent movie. Solid performances by the entire cast. Allison Pill and Mariska Hargitay prove that they can shine in demanding roles. Unexpected plot twists tied to the interplay between the Amish and modernday cultures heighten the drama and character development. You'll miss out on a good movie if you fall victim to the bias that made-for-TV productions aren't worth seeing on DVD. This one is better than many bigger budget Hollywood movies. Buy it. It's worth adding to your collection.

    Awesome Purchase

    The reason I bought this movie was because I saw it on Lifetime a few years ago and just loved the movie. Mariska Hargitay is my favorite actress and the fact that she played the lead character, is the reason I wanted this movie. The movie is great quality and I have watched it several times already. I can't say enough about how much I truely love this movie. It is the kind of movie that you can sit down and watch with the family. I have looked for this movie for a long time and I am so glad that I was able to find it and buy it!

    The Plain Truth

    I loved the movie and would recommend it to everyone. Its a great family movie and contains none of the filth that a lot of movies today contain. Mariska Hargitay of Law and Order: SVU fame, was outstanding in her role as attorney, Ellie Hathaway. Ellie stays on the Amish farm of the family of the teenager she is defending who is accused of murdering her baby. If you want a great family movie, don't hesitate to get this one. I can't think of anything I don't like about it, except maybe it could have been longer!
