  • Nothing new - No Secrets - Common Information

The book was purchased because I've been riding for almost 40 years. I had to be in the hospital and I thought this would be a good book to read because of the author. Sadly, this book is lacking in anything truly new in the convention of motorcycle riding, operating or maintenance. I appreciate Mr. Barger's attempt (with a co-author) to provide authoritarian information concerning owning and riding, but his sophomoric writing style coupled with a general lack of understanding of personal economies is prevalent throughout the book. He discusses the purchasing of a motorcycle and ownership, but he truly never delves into the nitty-gritty of those topics. For example, in one part of the book, he mentions a comedian having a skit on a H-D with carb's. You are left hanging on which ...

  • Motorcycles by the man who really knows motorcycles.

I have been riding for nearly forty years. There was only one little paperback book that I know of back then that explained motorcycles to those who did not know. We all learned the hard way. This book is the basics but updated to current motorcycle times. It should have been written like this a long time ago. If you don't know anything at all about bikes and are thinking you want one, then read this book. He tells you what is needed to know and gives strong opinions on things that are optional. In other words; he takes a stand and does not worry about offending. That is refreshing for a change. It was more of a nostalgic read for me. Making me think back to the days of when I was first learning to ride but it is full of valuable knowledge. If you need to know if motorcycling is for you ...

  • Nothing special

I really don’t think Sonny Barger had much input in this book. Very common info. None of the color I would expect from the likes of Sonny Barger. Sonny wrote this book just like “Trump wrote “The Art of the Deal”. Neither sonny nor Donny wrote a single word of those books

  • Priceless knowledge for any rider from a true American!

Not only does this book continue the truthful stories of Sonny’s previous books but it provides an honest and meaningful guide to your future as a rider. I don’t care if you are someone like me who rides in rain, sleet, snow, hot, cold, day or night seven days a week, you must read this book. For me this book reinforced some of the good habits that I have but also has reminded me of more of my bad habits and what I need to do to improve them and make me a better rider. Sonny and his co-author Darwin Holmstrom also dive head first into the many varieties of motorcycles, their mechanics, motors, and functions based on your riding needs. This book has already informed me of my next choice if I purchase another motorcycle. I currently own a 2001 FXSTB which has been a wonderful motorcycle ...

  • Very informative, great for beginning riders

Really enjoyed this book & already planning to read it again soon. This book is great for someone like myself, just starting to ride. It stresses safety, and is chock-full of down-to-earth common sense advice. Sonny offers suggestions on different types of motorcycles, down to component level differences, as well as recommendations on riding gear, being a defensive rider, and getting the proper safety training you need, especially with all the crazy cagers on the road. It's a short read, but a VERY good place to start whether you're a beginner who's never ridden or a seasoned rider with lots of miles behind you. Pick it up & check it out!
