Notes
Pamela Carolino was born on September 1st 1983, in Brazil. Governador Valadares, Minas Gerais, to be more exact. The first grandchild to be born, she was lucky enough to be exposed to the musical influences of both sides of the family. She had aunts who sang and uncles who played instruments. But from the beginning her biggest influences were her mom and her dad. 'My dad taught himself to play the guitar by ear. I can remember as a child at bedtime my dad would sing and play for me this lullaby he wrote with my name in it. I still remember some of it. And my mom is an awesome alto. I can remeber her taking me to her choir rehearsals. I would sit there and listen to her sing. Her voice was always the stongest.' Pamela was raised in the church and she was born to a family that was very involved in the church. All her family members played in the church band and sang in the church choirs and youth groups. In 1987 she migrated to the United States with her mother. Her dad had arrived a year and a half earlier. Her first years in the America were filled with disapointments and struggle. Especially after the divorce of her parents. To add on to the difficulties a new sibling had also entered the picture. 'My middle school years were not easy. I was an extremely depressed teen. I didn't know who I was or what i was supposed to be. I would cry myself to sleep every night. But no one knew.' In high school things got a little better. She enrolled at Madison Park Technical Vocational high School in Roxbury, Mass and decided that music would be her vocation. She took guitar lessons, piano lessons, alittle bit of bass, alittle bit of the flute and sang with the choir. While there, she was introduced to the world of black gospel music. And it was from that point on that her relationship with music truly began. 'I loved that school. I can truly say that the music program there, saved my life. They shined a light on the path I had to walk down to find myself. For that I am truly grateful.' ' I loved singing with school choir. And it wasn't your typical choir music. We did songs by Kirk Franklin and Fred Hammond. And i just fell in love with their music.' Today Pamela lives with a new focus. She recently fulfilled a dream. She released her first album in October of 2006. .''Everytime I look at the CD cover I feel like I'm dreamin. It hasn't hit me yet.' Most of the songs on the album are original compositions that share some of her life struggles. Originally she had intended for the album to have a contemporary gospel feel, but it ended up being a unique blend of different genres. 'I had intended for a completely different sound for this album. But the songs just kinda birthed themselves. And when that happens, you can't mess with it. Just let it be.'
