The Hitachi Travelstar 7K60 is a modest product for laptop owners who wish to back up their files. This provides them with an internal 60 GB hard drive that is designed tough. This Hitachi hard drive operates on several interfaces, including DMA/ATA-100, ATA-100 and ATA/ATAPI-6. It is intended for use on personal computers and will not function on Mac systems. This internal 60 GB hard drive contains an 8 MB buffer size and spins up to 7200 RPM. Data on the Hitachi Travelstar 7K60 will transfer at rates of 100 Mbps externally and 63 Mbit/s internally. The Hitachi hard drive has a form factor of 2.5-inches x 1/8H and a 10 ms seek time. It is on also the quiet side, operating at 35 dB. In terms of massive upgrades, the Hitachi Travelstar 7K60 is better served as a fix for a faulty hard drive or an addition to ones current hard drive setup. The device itself is fairly small, with its 0.37-inch height, 2.76 inch width and 3.94 inch depth. This product weighs 0.22 lbs.

    Slow & Old IDE Laptop? Hitachi 7200RPM Drives Can Show You the Light!!!

    Well, this is definitely a tough one for sure... After using SATA drives for several years now, its (really!) tough to 'think back' to IDE performance curves & try NOT to be biased for how 'slow' they seem to be...naturally they are going to 'seem' much slower nowadays 'cause we are so used to WAY faster data transfer speeds w/ modern SATA drives...going from MB per second to multiple GB per second is a huge quantum leap of noticeable speed!... Cons (if any!): So...this drive could probably be a five in realistic terms, to be honest 'bout it...there was just one quirk i had that made me rate it as a '4'...the noise...this drive actually replaced an OEM Hitachi 40G Travelstar, so i assumed it would be relatively the 'same', with a little more turbo & capacity! ...well it IS indeed those ...

    7200rpm is 50% faster than 5400rpm but fans need to be good working The Hitachi Travelstar series of hard drives is a solid industry leader in performance and reliability. The 7K100 80GB model is a second-generation wonder that offers extreme data throughput, thanks to a sizzling 7200rpm spindle speed, but that sizzle doesn’t translate to waste heat because the 7K100 uses sufficiently less power than other drives that the extra heat isn’t generated to begin with! Hitachi’s own battery life extender technology, a power management suite allowing you to extend battery life and power consumption, keeps things calm and quiet, too, with a low power idle of less than a watt.

    Great performance and value

    I purchased this for an older laptop, I wanted to upgrade rather than purchase a newer one. The performance is great. I installed Windows XP without any problems and use it daily. The size, speed and price were exactly what I needed.

    hard drive

    i was very happy, it came very fast. because i am in japan and i have a alienware computer. could not get the part in japan and they will not fix a alienware. but anyway, it was not the hard drive, now i have to buy a mother borad and replace it myself. thanks ex_marine
