Fans of cult hit NAPOLEON DYNAMITE will find much to like in this quirky New Zealand import. Director Taika Waititi's debut feature centers on the oddest of couples: Lily (Loren Horsley), an outcast at the fast food restaurant where she works, and Jarrod (Jermaine Clement, FLIGHT OF THE CONCORDS), a clerk at a video game store who is completely oblivious to his dork status. Lily's days revolve around Jarrod's daily burger-driven appearances at her job, but, alas, he only has eyes for her perky blonde coworker. But Lily wins his heart with her video game prowess, and the pair becomes a couple. However, Jarrod has more than romance on his mind, and he journeys back to his hometown to face a high school nemesis with loyal Lily in tow.Though Jarrod provides much of the film's humor, Lily provides its heart. Horsley's resume doesn't feature a large number of credits, but she is wonderful as Lily. She's awkward and honest, sweet and completely smitten with Jarrod. As Jarrod, Clement has perfected the deadpan delivery that made NAPOLEON DYNAMITE so much fun. As in its predecessor, EAGLE VS. SHARK features characters that aren't aware that they aren't "normal." From Jarrod's mullets to his family's beloved track suits, they're a study in strange, but they are genuine and real people. Like other odd romances such as HAROLD AND MAUDE, this love seems unlikely, but good acting and smart writing make it work.

    Eagle Vs. Shark "A Conchords Prespective"

    The actor that plays Jermaine in Flight of the Conchords works a different comedic formula in Eagle Vs. Shark. Instead of the piningly hip character he portrays on fotcs he becomes a mullet wearing lord of the dorks version of napolean dynomite.... Eagle Vs. Shark has its moments.. It starts with really strong character development in the beginning. This is helpful towards the ending especially into developing and setting up the jokes. I guess this movie easily falls into the category of "romantic comedy" but stays true to story form.. and never really loses its indie distinction.. And if you dont at least enjoy it a little bit.. and laugh a little bit.. im willing to bet that you could be lacking a pulse.. or at least a heart..

    A funny unconventional love story with unusal twists and turns.

    I loved this movie! It is a classic boy meets girl, then boy gets side-tracked with his own agenda. But, in the end, love triumphs over all. This movie will allow you to experience a full range of emotions, because parts of it are very funny and parts are quite sad. Yet, you always want to keep watching to see what will happen next. The only bad part was their heavy New Zealand accents, it made it hard to understand what they were saying at times. All in all, I would and have recommended this movie to my friends.

    The special quirky humor and emotionally evoking script and acting make this film a best kept secret. One can watch it over and over and enjoy a new aspect each time. Laugh out loud funny and charming across the board. A sweet but unusual love story.

    Eagle Vs Shark

    This movie has such a lovable character to it. I watched it just because Jemaine Clement, from Flight of the Conchords, was in it but was highly surprised at how much I loved this movie. Everyone in their life has felt like the ignored person that Lily portrays so well. It has a Napoleon Dynamite feel to it as well, since the people act so strange, but don't realize that they are weird. There are some good lines and the director adds some unexpected scenes. I would recommend it to all of my friends, but you have to have a sense of subtle humor appreciation.
