The Contra series continues with this 16-bit masterpiece for the Super NES. Much of the blastathon action is of the standard side-scrolling platform variety, but two of the six levels incorporate a surprisingly effective overhead view. Giant bosses, constant shooting action, the ability to detonate bombs, intense gameplay, huge explosions, rich graphics, death-defying acrobatics, and spectacular Mode 7 effects make Contra III: The Alien Wars one of the best platform shooters available for any system. The game could benefit from a few more levels, and slowdown occurs from time to time, but these problems can easily be overlooked in a game as enjoyable as this.

Contra III Brings the Alien Wars to the Super Nintendo
Three times the charm for this sequel that started back in the arcades. Despite it's name, this game is really about an alien invasion. If you remember the good old days playing Contra on the classic Nintendo system, you will like the shooting levels of this 16-bit version. The American version is slightly different than the international releases in regards to the story line. That is not important. What is important is that you get a fast shooting action game with different varying levels to keep the pace moving. This game borrows some elements from the arcade predecessors making this game unique like only Konami can do it right.Three times the charm for this sequel that started back in the arcades. Great Super Nintendo Action Game
Contra III is a great platform/action game, and is probably the best in the series. In addition to the standard machine gun, you can also use additional weapons such as lasers, spreaders, and homing missiles; all of which are very fun to use. The mix of action and platforming can get pretty intense at times but it never gets frustratingly difficult. Contra III has challenging yet fun levels and bosses that are all different and never get boring. Contra is played from a side perspective as well as a top down perspective which adds a lot of variety to the game. Although Contra III tends to be pretty expensive and difficult to find, I would highly recommend that any SNES owner buys it. Classic Side Scrolling Action
If you have played any 2d Contra game then you know what to expect. Nonstop action, hard to dodge obstacles and bullets, huge bosses, and aliens. All topped off with great difficulty, beautiful sprites and backgrounds, and a memorable soundtrack. Highly recommend. P.S. if you have a Sega Genesis, but no SNES, try Contra Hard Corps.

Contra 3: The best shooter on the SNES
Contra 3 is the 4th contra game, with Contra, Super C, and Operation C being the first. The name is a little confusing, but the game is anything but. It has a similar feel to the original Contra games on the NES and Gameboy, but it has more weapons and way more possibilities. You can climb walls, hang off of bosses, and the new airstrike powerup is amazing. The graphics still look good even today. For anyone who played the original Contra games on the NES or in the arcades, this is a must-have. It's usually not cheap (I got lucky and got it for $23), but it is definitely worth it. It has plenty of levels and the co-op action that the series in known for. I do agree that this game is pretty difficult. But the challenge factor is the center part of the game. This game takes the previous two Contra games to new 16-bit levels with new weapons. My personal favorite is the homing missile which tops out the spread gun on the previous two games. But that's all balanced out by loads of enemy fire and more enemies on screen than the previous two games. The difference is that because the game is hard, you automatically start off with the machine gun, unlike the pistol in the previous two games. However, you don't get the true ending until you beat the game on "hard" mode. I think it's one of those classic games that you should re-buy should you sold this or gave it away when you were moving on to your N64, but are now going retro. However, I think you should get this game if you haven't played it before, but you decided to go retro on your gaming style. This is the game that was not only great back in 1992, but has aged well, and I believe it's selling well on the Wii virtual console.
