    way tooooo long 20k

I bought because I wanted to see a different version of 20,000- I think this is from tv - 3 1 hour segments - It keeps going and going- I have to finish watching it to see how it ends - I have 20 minutes left out of 3 hours- A different turn of events on this version - - tooooooooooooooooooooooo long I don't know if I can finish it -

  • TwentyThousand Leagues Under the Sea (2006)

As a major 20,000 Leagues fan I bought this DVD mainly for it's interesting take on the Nautilus design. As far as the story goes- this is probably the worse 20,000 Leagues version out there. Jules Verne wouldn't recognize any of his characters as portrayed in this film. You can just imagine the producers sitting around a table pitching ideas on how to "improve" the novel for today's audiences. Professor Arronax is now a young genius with a ruthless, hateful father who disapproves of everything his son does. Leaving on a voyage that his father is firmly against, Arronax winds up on the Victorian submarine, Nautilus, captained by Nemo, played by Michael Caine. The writers have now given Nemo a mechanical arm and set up a sort of "Luke Skywalker- Darth Vader thing' with Nemo becoming a ...

  • Seller GREAT, movie, so-so

I want to keep this separate from the seller who was great. The movie was lllllllllllllllooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggg. God, I thought it would never end. When we all thought it should be ending soon it goes into this lost city of Atlantis thing...I guess...we were confused. The movie is NOTHING like the Disney original...our harpooner (Ned Land?) is a nut case, not the jovial fellow in the original. I felt bad for Michael Cain....miss-cast in my opinion. The idea of a Victorian house in the sub for Nemo's daughter blew me away...you've got to be kidding! The Nautilus was, well, goofy...nothing Victorian on the outside...I expected a remarkable update as they did with the Enterprise on Star Trek films. And what's with the crew? They all looked like pirates! Can't Nemo afford some ...

  • The best version yet made for the screen.

I am a long time admirer of Jules Verne's work, especially 20,000 Leagues. As time goes by, it seems that intelligent audiences look for more detail and explanation in screenplays. I certainly appreciate the presentation of more carefully thought out development of characters and their motivations. In truth, no film based upon a classic book can fully embody the compass of the tale but it is possible to come close, and do justice to the essential message of the story. In my opinion, this is such a film. I was pleasantly surprised with this version and now prefer it to any previous film adaptation. I highly recommend this film to anyone who is either a fan of the author's work, or who simply loves a good adventure tale. Enjoy!

  • Delivers the goods.

An engaging version of the novel. Michel Caine is good in everything.
