Sturdy little bugger
I got this machine on the cheap from a friend who no longer has room for a sewing hobby. I previously owned a shiny white 5-thread Singer serger that NEVER sewed one tight seam EVER, even when brand new, no matter how it was adjusted. As a result, I had the impression that sergers were just too fussy to use for clothing. My pants would probably split open! Well, this old Bernina, with its slightly yellowed covers, showed me what a good serger is all about. It had been in storage for a couple years, but sewed a beautiful, strong seam immediately. I have never had a bit of frustration even when using different threads or fabrics. I usually don't even have to change the adjustments. The 1100DA makes serging easy, fun, and convenient. It's Swiss. Come on.
The 1100DA is a fantastic machine. The threading is really easy considering you get an auto threader for the bottom looper (no more opening the side panel and removing the door underneath the stitch plate to thread that thing!). It has an automatic needle threader as well and easy instructions to use. The machine will work with any fabric because of its differential feed system, which is also adjustable. It has a thread guide inside the cover, and a scrap bucket for the fabric. The Rolled hem lever makes doing rolled hems so simple... all you do is flick the lever and adjust the tension and you're good to go! No more changing stitch plates! AC motor, nice light, and a thread cutter all included. Handy accessories holder is attached to the inside of the front cover, in easy reach! ... The 1100DA is a fantastic machine. Does the job.
This replacement shank and presser foot was easy to fit on to the machine and performs as well as the old one did. That is pretty much what I wanted so I was happy .
