  • 40 years ago they had good ice skating books

Not many basic ice skating skill books written since 2000 are better than this 1968 classic. And almost every hockey player I know would be an improved skater if they could skate all the basic skills in this book. Even the equiment chapter is still relevent. What this book lacks is any theory that explains why a skater can skate faster and more efficiently than a person running. But, I have not seen any other book explain the theory either. The absolute beginner would benifit from this book, but should have an instructor and/or another book to help with the progressions to make their learning more safe, effective and efficent.

  • Basic Ice Skating Skills book

This is probably the best ice skating book ever written. As a volunteer instructor for an adult class, I frequently refer to it for ways to pass on the basics in developing skills. I used this book when I was learning to skate in the 1960's. I loaned the book to a student who loved it, and this purchase was for him so he could have his own. He liked the way that the wrong, but natural way of developing the skills was also shown. Frequently, this showed him why he was having problems. Wish it was still published.
