About this product

Product Information

Command a fleet of space vessels on a journey across the galaxy, to confront its people's greatest threat and resolve their most ancient mysteries. This sequel to 1999's universally acclaimed 3D real-time strategy is designed to offer the engrossing gameplay and captivating presentation of the original, with several gentle refinements and new possibilities. Again, the game is played in enormous, three-dimensional space, but the interface has been enhanced to provide simpler control, especially for gamers familiar with more conventional real-time strategy.

Unlike the first game, Homeworld 2 involves warfare between two very different factions, each with its own ships, technology, and tactics. Players remain with the Hiigarans, but face an unfamiliar enemy fleet with unknown strengths and weaknesses. The Mothership is still central to the Hiigaran fleet, but other capital ships can also be equipped for management and production capabilities. Units range in size and power from the tiniest recon scouts to structures that dwarf even the largest vessels of the original game. Larger ships now support customizable subsystems, suggesting new defensive and offensive tactics. The game is designed such that ships of all sizes serve a purpose, at all levels of research and production throughout the campaign.

Following countless generations of exile, and the epic journey that was the story of the original game, the Hiigarans have returned to reclaim their homeworld. Yet true peace eludes the beleaguered race. A new enemy, the Vaygr, now threatens Hiigara. Coming from the distant Inner Rim in the oldest parts of the galaxy, the Vaygr threat may offer clues to why the Hiigarans were banished from their world in the first place -- if it doesn't destroy them first. The Hiigaran Mothership and its fleet prepare for another journey, to confront the Vaygr aggression at its source, and perhaps rediscover the deepest secrets of their own history.

Shipped out quickly after ordering, was packed well, and arrived in the estimated time frame. One of the few seller of this item with a decent item price and shipping cost. Item was as described but I took off 1 star as the bottom inside of the cup had deep scratches that carved into it and took out some of the plastic. But that was likely the luck of the draw of the one I got, I don't fault the seller. Overall I would recommend this seller, and would buy from them again.

    Favorite Gane title

Could not get the game to run on my computer, tried several patches and fixes from the intranet. Homeworld is one of my all time favorite games with great game play and graphics. Recommend buying remastered game verses original Homeworld 2

  • Space RTS - One of the few good ones!

Homeworld 2 is a great space RTS. Without making it too complicated, it gives users the opportunity to command armadas to victory. I'm giving it a "good" rating because its online multiplayer experience is minimal. By minimal, I mean it's completely dead. However, it's easy to play LAN games if someone else owns the game on your local network.

  • Worth the money

Outdated but otherwise great space strategy game. The 3D map and unit control is fantastic and way ahead of its time, but the rest of the interfaces are outdated. The AI is ok, but I cant seem to find the ballance between too hard and too easy. I would love to see a moddern space strategy game that borrowed some ideas from HOMEWORLD2. Shipped on time with no problems.

  • Great game! Multi-player weak as game is old, but good single player exp.

This is a great real-time space strategy game! It's a great followup to the original (Homeworld) and continues the story told in the first game. The interface and graphics has been improved, and various other features have as well. Despite the improvements, the feel of the game remains and to date I have found no games similar to this. It's a little old now so the multiplayer community is sort of dead, but the campaign is still excellent for those who like this sort of game. I hope they make another sequel one day!

  • Better than the original

I bought this game years ago, but my computer at that time couldn't run it. Having played Homeworld into the ground, the screens took getting used to, but I really like still being able to see what's going on around my mothership while simultaneously building new ships or researching. The group select is better as well. The battles are better graphically; it doesn't seem so much like you're watching an animated space battle. If you liked Homeworld, you should love Homeworld 2.
