Classics are better than new movies - The Hustler beats this sequel

After loving the Hustler so much, I was hoping this sequel would hold water. It's ok, but it sure doesn't compare to the original - The Hustler. Cruz was not as good as he usually is in most movies. I kept thinking he'd break and share that his father ran out on him or beat him at some point in the movie, but he instead becomes a jerk. I thought the movie really left us hanging unsatisfied at the end. Newman was ok, but he didn't seem to be the same character as in the Hustler. But Newman himself said that this was the sequel to that movie, so he was to play the same character. Anyway, I think they could've done more with such a great premise for a movie and base from the Hustler.

  • The Color of Money

The "Hustler" is not what he used to be. "Fast" Eddie Felson (Paul Newman) has given up pool for life and makes his money selling liquor now. But then he meets Vincent (Tom Cruise), a cocky natural who makes a cue ball crack like a lightning bolt. Eddie takes Vincent under his wing and on the road to show him how to "hustle" the competition out of money and reach the big leagues of pool. However, Vincent is just beyond teaching, and can not "set up" his marks by blowing games or taking verbal jabs given by his opponents. Newman and Cruise can not make it as a team, so they split up and Newman decides to try pool again himself. Then the meet as competitors in a big pool World Series type of game in Atlantic City. A great movie that you will enjoy, great acting by all actors and ...

  • one of my favorites!!!

well ppl...I know this movie is older, but still to this day theres no other pool movie thats even in the same league as this one...this movie was well choreographed and the movie really makes u feel what its like to be in the pool hustling business...maybe because I have played pool all my life and absolutely love it affected my reaction to word it like I did,but more than likely if you're looking at this movie you're a pool fan too...if you are DEFINATELY BUY THIS MOVIE if you have never seen it...has some really cool trick shots too..its very straight forward about lessons in life that you learn while 'hustling' ...its one of my all time favorite movies and even if you're not a big fan of pool...this movie may make you look at it in a whole different light!! Paul Newman is very inspiring ...

  • the color of money is a perfect title for the film

I liked the characters very much. Newman, Cruise, Forrest Whitaker. Newman plays a mentor for young Cruise about how to make money winning games of pool without being marked as a hustler. Of course Cruise is a hard-headed youth who just can't help himself from showing off. This behaviour leads to trouble for him now and again. Paul Newman teaches Cruise from experience, as he plays a older, wiser, Fast Eddie from the early 1960's movie, The Hustler. Newman has retired from the game and now owns a bar/pool-hall, but with turns in the film he gets back into the game and does well. Both Newman and Cruise end up in Atlantic City where the annual tournament is held. Cruise and Newman do well, making good money. I found The Color of Money to be easy to watch and enjoyable. There is a lot ...
