I know that the z has had this done to help lower interior noise. I did some decibel checks of before and after. I lost about 8-10 decibel. The biggest help was that it eliminates the high pitch from the exhaust. When cruising at freeway speeds of 70-80 mph it was hard to talk to the person sitting next to you. Even listing to the stereo was a pain. I also used the 1/4 inch foam matting over the wheel wells only. I would recommend for someone that had never done this to get the aluminium tape. I didn't use it but will be going back over it later. Be prepared to get a lot of cuts. The outer layer can get your fingers. The material molds fairly easily. For bigger pieces I found it best to not pull the backing competely off. Over lapping the sheets and trimming to fit was actually pretty ... I used a total of 36 Sq ft and could of used 6 more Sq ft. I don't know how well the cheaper brands would really work. But I went with this because it wasn't a asphalt based product. The material itself felt like the window tape for a older car window. Be prepared to lose a layer of skin on a big job. Did the job and took car out for weekend. Didn't have any odors all weekend. Over all after spending nearly 220$ it was wroth it.
