Reviews
The two books examined for this review are part of a multi-title series. Some of the other tiles in the series include Cults, Militias, Neo-Nazis, Plague and Pestilence, Suicide, and Teen Crime. Based on the volumes I reviewed, this is a well-written series covering difficult topics; The books provide a good historical perspective of the topics and factual, non-biased presentation of the political, scientific, and human facets of the issues surrounding the topics. When I received these books and saw the titles, I was not looking forward to reading them. However, as I began to read, I found the authors had done a very effective job in presenting difficult subject matter in a well-organized, readable format that explored the facts and issues in an interesting manner. The coverage of the topics is complete, with no jargon or assumed knowledge. Each volume contains a bibliography, glossary, suggested reading list and index. This series is best suited for students in grade six and above., Appraisal Spring 2002 (SPECIALIST)
