About this product

Product Information

Prolific director John Carpenter takes on the vampire genre in his action-horror film VAMPIRES. Bitter, tough-as-nails vampire hunter Jack Crow (James Woods) leads a specialized team, funded by no less than the Vatican, that is dedicated to destroying the race of vampires that inhabit the earth. The team is successful, and becomes lazy in its success, eventually falling victim to an elaborate ambush set up by a powerful master vampire. Crow and two others of his team are the only survivors, and are determined to get revenge for the massacre. Carpenter takes the genre to new heights with powerful action scenes, nifty vampire-killing weapons and great special effects. James Woods is wonderfully over the top as the head vampire hunter who has no love for the Vatican and a mysterious past that is never far behind him. VAMPIRES is based on the book by John Steakley, adapted for the screen by Don Jakoby. The score is creepy and powerful, a typical characteristic for a Carpenter film.

  • John Carpenter's VAMPIRES (DVD, 1999)

This is a good action flick about a group of VAMPIRE hunters who, as a team led by Jack Crow (James Woods), and employed by a Cardinal (Maximillian Schell) of the Catholic Church of Rome, to hunt down and destroy clusters of vampires. While routinely cleaning out a cluster in southern New Mexico, they stumble upon the Master Vampire, a vampire so powerful that he just may be the leader of all vampires. Valek, an excommunicated, fallen priest, damned by the Church has sworn allegiance to Satan. Valek surprises the team and kills all but Crow and one other, Montoya (Daniel Baldwin). Together, along with a priest (Thomas Ian Griffith) they kidnap one of Valeks victims (Sheryl Lee), to use as a psychic link to find him. He is searching for a special cross that was used in his excommunication ...

  • A great Vampire Film!!!

John Carpenter's Vampires A blood sucking good time. One of the best Vampire films ever made. Vampire fans rejoice! This movie rocks! I really enjoyed this movie the first time I saw it, and I still enjoy it today. James Woods is great as usual and The Baldwin is good as well. The real scene stealer is Thomas Ian Griffith as Jan Valek (The Bad-*** Vampire) Vampires has a ton of action, violence, and gore. Any Vampire fan will enjoy this film immensely. Final Verdict: 4/5 Rent or Buy?: Fan of Vampire movies? I'm surprised you don't already own this. Just looking for a good movie? I'd suggest renting before you buy. IF YOU FIND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE. Thank you.

  • "How to turn a B-book into an A-movie"

I read the book BEFORE I saw the movie, which is usually a huge mistake. Not in this case. The book was good, but not exceptional. The MOVIE, was exceptional. James Woods is brilliant and plays the role of the angry and world-weary vampire stalker to perfection. The story has some very good twists on vampire lore for those who love vampire stories. What makes this story so entertaining and utterly watchable is James Woods' performance and the special effects. Well worth the price of ownership. Nice gritty feel to the movie overall. No HUGE scares, but packed with action sequences.

  • One Of The Best Vampire Movies Ive Seen

Vampires is definately one of John Carpenters best films. Maybe a little lesser known than say Halloween. But this is a great vampire movie. James Woods is awesome in this movie. I was always a fan of His but I have to say this is one of His greatest roles Ive seen Him do. I know theres a million vampire movies to date. But this isnt a Twilight movie or something lame like that. Alot of action and horror and great dialogue from James Woods. I dont want to give away too much for those Who havent seen it. But if You love horror and vampire films, this is a great combination of both.
