About this product

Product Information

The very first Alan Lewrie naval adventure in this classic series is now back in print 1780: Seventeen-year-old Alan Lewrie is a brash, rebellious young libertine. So much so that his callous father believes a bit of navy discipline will turn the boy around. Fresh aboard the tall-masted Ariadne, Midshipman Lewrie heads for the war-torn Americas, finding--rather unexpectedly--that he is a born sailor, equally at home with the randy pleasures of the port and the raging battles on the high seas. But in a hail of cannonballs comes a bawdy surprise. . . .

purchased the book “my feelings are like wild animals: how do I tame them?” I got it here because the price was $4.72. Condition is as described. The book was bent which likely occurred during shipping, because it was shipped unprotected, by itself. I wish it was shipped in protective cardboard or in a bubble wrap envelope (like other books from eBay.) Fortunately it’s easy to flatten out the bend by putting something heavy on top of the book. Therefore I’ll purchase from this seller again.

  • A good read for fans of naval adventure.

If you like Forester and O'Brien's work, then this book might just be for you. If you wish that Forester and O'Brien included more of the hash language, sex and gore that they only allude to when depicting of the age of fighting sail, then then this book (and the rest of the series) is definitely for you. If you are somewhat uptight or squeamish, possibly best to sit this one out.

Right up there with the Master and Commander series.
