  • Lovely British viewing with great French charm!

Michael Gambon is a truly human character in what is essentially the Agatha Christie genre of character actors. The Maigret series is a cut above Poirot in many respects however in that his human warmth is unmistakable while Suchet in Poirot comes across as a geek, neanderthal even despite his stumblings on the inane that seem to focus his attentions leading to his serendipitic discoveries and case outcomes. Maigret is civilized viewing with very beautiful British charm in great dialogue and scripting and intelligent plots that will captivate you for the entire episode given Gambon's appeal personally. If youve ever enjoyed the Detective series whether in Inspector Morse (formally a detective) or in Hercule Poirot (a detective by profession) you will absolutely love Maigret as it is one ...

  • Even better than the original French version, but not by much. Gambon is subtle and superb....

DVD's are perfect, but the case was damaged.

  • Uncle Jules

Holmes is the smartest guy in the room, so you know that whatever you have thought of, he has been their first. Morse knows who did it, he just needs to come up with the details. Maigret is like your favorite Uncle. You can tell him the horrible things that you have done, and he will still like you. The series is very well done and just reeks of Paris in the late 1940's and early 1950's. When Paris was cool. So sit back and enjoy.

  • Older Maigret

Not the newest Maigret series, but great acting and very entertaining mysteries
