Anyone who has played previous editions of the Party series will be familiar with the formula of rolling dice to travel around a board and win coins and stars. Players acquire coins by landing on spaces and winning mini-games, and buying a star costs 20 coins. The winner of a round is the person with the most stars. In-game happenings can shake up the standings for Mario and his crew at any time.The Mario Party games have always been fun for the whole family because they provide an engaging yet level playing field. Each mini-game gives all the players the opportunity to win. The random nature of the board movement also contributes to the democratic nature of the outcome. Spaces like Bowser and Donkey Kong can mix up a round in its final turns. Playable characters in the game range from the familiar Mario and Luigi to Toad, Wario, and Koopa. Mario Party 5 has a story mode where you fight Koopa enemies on a series of boards followed by a competition with Bowser, but the main draw is the multiplayer mode. The characters differ only in appearance, so everyone has a chance to win. The AI can fill in and control any unfilled spots on the player list for each game so there's always a full group playing. This Party game hits all the same high notes that previous entries in the series have by maintaining that same sense of accessible and friendly fun. It also takes full advantage of the Nintendo GameCube to add 3D backgrounds for the first time in the series. You can also insert this GameCube disk into your Nintendo Wii and Wii U to enjoy the same fun on a different system.     Good for price but disc scratched to hell

    Honestly a good price for this game. However the disc itself is scratched so bad. As long as it works I’m fine but this quality of the disc really is unexplainable.....

    Great game

    I really like this game a lot. It has my favorite mini-games out of the ones I've played so far which is Mario party 4,5, and 7. If your child likes video games, it's a great family game to play together. My son is 7 and he played it at age 5, but he catches on quickly to controllers and games. The graphics are pretty good, but its obvious after Mario party 7, graphics have gotten a lot better for the Mario series. If you want a game that for family fun, and you don't mind graphics that are good but not great (mini games are more important) then I would definitely recommend this game. If you go for graphics over mini games, I'd recommend mario party 7 or 8. Overall though, they are all great family friendly games. I gave it a good rating instead of excellent because like I said earlier, ...

    Fun!

    I have only had experience with Mario Party on the N64 before I purchased this game, and I have to say that I am excited to check out the rest of the levels. I have played through all the levels on the N64 version and I needed something new. I played Mario Party 5 last night and had a lot of fun. It's very nostalgic for me and now the mini games seem a little more difficult and there are more maps. I look forward to playing this game a lot more!

    As good as Mario Party 4 is, Nintendo was in a major rush to make it. They had to cancel duel mini-games and other mini-games just so they could release it in time. Mario Party 4 was a test and rush game. After Mario Party 4 was a success, however, Nintendo made another Mario Party for the Gamecube that they actually took their time on. Mario Party 5 brings back duel mini-games, has tons of extra mini-games and other games in bonus mode, and they even added some new characters like Toad, Boo, and Koopa-Kid. Mario Party 5 also started 3-D board maps wich are totally awesome! Plus there's eight of them. On all other Mario Paties, there's only seven boards (actually, Mario Party 1 has eight boards too.).
