Beautiful, sexy and paradoxically realistic and inaccurate
Entertaining, though often NOT historically accurate. (That's troubling. Why not make it accurate?). This is strange to say, but the TEXTILES they use in this production really grabbed my attention. That said, I've also heard that the costume design is not historically accurate either. Too bad. It is very pretty though. NOTE that sex scenes are pretty frequent and not done subtly. Normally, I'm not a fan of gratuitous sex scenes thrown into programs. But so far they seem to appear when it legitimately advances the narrative. And since we know that sex DID legitimately drive a lot of this particular history, it seems kind of like "facing the facts" as they were and not shying away politely.... even though these scenes are probably mainly added to attract modern viewers.Entertaining, though often NOT historically accurate.
