About this product

Product Information

Designed to present grown-up gamers with a well-rounded cowboy adventure, Gun tells a classic Western story of revenge and rugged individualism, with the player in the starring role. Colton White was robbed of his heritage by a lifetime of lies; now he aims to take charge of his destiny and become his own man. The game's open-ended mission structure and expansive environments allow players to explore the frontier as they choose. Missions offer a variety of gameplay styles, including stealth action, precision shooting, and horseback riding.

Players can develop Colton White to be an upstanding, classic hero, who protects the innocent and follows a code of righteousness, or a vengeful loner, who best serves the frontier community by serving himself first. The game's story progresses through a series of major missions, but many side-quests allow the hero to develop skills and earn scratch. Money and other crucial resources can be gained by collecting bounties, winning at the poker table, or by less civically upstanding means.

Gun was developed by veteran studio Neversoft, previously renowned as the creator of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series. Key characters in Gun are voiced by a number of accomplished screen actors, including Tom Skerritt, Lance Henriksen, and Kris Kristofferson. The game's story was written by screenwriter Randall Jahnson (Sunset Strip, The Mask of Zorro, The Doors).

    Gun review

A much overlooked gem of its generation. It’s relatively short but there’s plenty of fun side missions to lengthen it, as well as poker tournaments in the various towns saloons. The story could be straight out of a 70’s Clint Eastwood movie. You’re traveling around the southwest on horseback, gunfighting and blowing up bridges and escorting wagons through hostile territory and things like that. It’s certainly dated, but if you like GameCube games and old school westerns you can’t go wrong.

  • Ever want to blow up buffalo with dynamite?

I had high hopes when I bought picked up this game and I was not disappointed. Gun is a story of corruption and murder set in the old west. We are talking shoot outs, whore houses, buffalos, indians, combat on horse back. Lots of fun stuff. There is alot of plot to this game which is basically a revenge tale. You can do so much stuff in this game that you've been wanting to for years. An example I found amusing is the fact that you can take an arrow attached to a stick of dynamite and shoot it at a person and when it explodes there are limbs scattered everywhere with tons of blood. It's not voilent, it's just realistic. I wouldn't give it a great rating for the simple fact that it is a short game. Although there are alot of side missions the game is beat pretty quickly. I can't wait for ...

  • Great western!!!

After 'Red Dead Revolver' I wondered what would be the next great western game. "GUN" was it and the only option for a western on the Cube. The story is pretty typical spaghetti western with a "National Treasure" twist. There is not much to do in the game once you have beaten it but the ride to the end is a lot of fun. Controls are great. Cinematics not too bad. Dialogue is not so great but Thomas Jane does voice the main character. I absolutely love the horseback riding. The horses control as if you were really riding a horse. No multiplayer really made me sad. In 'Red Dead Revolver' they at least had multiplayer but "GUN" is a solo job. Probably not much more than a rental for most people. 3.5/5

  • Pretty and Fun, But Short and Easy

Let's start with the positives: Gun is a very pretty game, with lots of great scenery and attention to detail. It is also easy to learn and a lot of fun to play. However, the game has a few problems. First, it is one of those games that you can breeze through the entire thing only dying a few times, but at the end the "boss" is extremely difficult and takes many tries to finally defeat. Second, it's extremely short - even playing all the side missions it does not provide a very long playing experience. Also, it is completely linear. You go from a to b to c without ever making a decision or having to alter your strategy. Nothing affects the storyline, so you merely hop from one movie to the next. All in all, I would suggest renting the game for $6 rather than buying it for $50. I ...

  • A very good shooting game for the GameCube.

Gun for the GameCube was basically what I was expecting it to be like, based on commercials that I had seen for it. Once you get through the training stuff in the beginning (which is somewhat necessary), it really is a fun game. You can play missions and increase money and status, but you can also just roam around and pick fights or just simply shoot people! This of course upsets the townspeople and they try to shoot you too! If you are looking for a shoot 'em up western version of the GTA series of games, this is not quite it, but it is close. Instead of getting in and out of cars in between shooting rampages, you can get on and off of horses! For the price, it is definitely worth checking out for the GameCube.
