The first time put a little bit of a beat in deathmetal
Now,reviewing Deicide Cds is always a tricky thing to do.Deicide fans almost never argee on which this best CD.Some the Hoffmans's guitar work which reign supreme on this CD.Plus these songs has kind of great groove which makes deicide the best death metal band with early Cannibal corpse coming a far lower second.Deicide defined and transcended the confines of death metal.Everything from this Cd screams classic.With Scott Burns who produced Cannibal Corpse and early Obituary albums,producing this Deicide masterpiece.Plus the cover art with an autopsy of Jesus is album is not for weak posers. 1.Once Upon The Cross- this track begins with a sample from Martin Scorcese's "Last Temptation of Christ". The two Hoffmans brothers got a certain groove dare I say melody which usual for death metal ... Of course,this is what Deicide does best.Real metal should dark,forboding and creep the hell out of ya. 3.When Satan Rules his World- Too late,he already does.Deicide has a knack for throwing into the pits of Hell.Making Slayer looks like they are playing in slow motion and like Slayer are old farts whose time has already past. 4.Kill the Christian-Simple statement.This extreme anti-christian stance drives some people away from Deicide's heart-pounding music. 5.Trick or betrayed-Starts off with another sample from 'Last Temptation of Christ'.Another track about not believing the so-called lies in the Bible and berating religion. 6.They Are The Children of The Underworld-This song contains Benton's infamous dual different vocals about the Kuthulu mythos that H.P.Lovecraft created the Mad Arab myth as The necromoninon. 7.Behind The Light Thou Shall Rise- the classical guitar shredding of the pentatonic chords blazing faster than the speed of sound or light. 8.To be Dead-yet supersonic shredding of the pentatonic chords.Death metal riffs sounding like gravediggers beating their shovels on top of my coffin. 9.Confessional rape-This song rounds off the album about Roman catholic priests molestering underage teenage alter boys against their will.Preach an eye for an eye vengeances being dished out by Satan has somewhat a ring of poetic justice if the poet is Edgar Allen Poe or Sir john Milton. After listening to this classic death metal Cd being throughly creeped out I have to wonder what was in the water in Florida in the early to mid '90's with all these death metal bands coming from there.Benton has commented on the tele-evangelism craze of the bible belt in the '80's.It's an album for only true metal heads who have no regrets or no remorse for extremely moshing with no compromise in death metal.
