Great compact rig with power to spare. Recommended for the serious mobile VHF FM ham radio operator.
High power VHF FM mobile rig. The menu is a little wonky but is easy to use and even intuitive once you get a bit of practice. Very easy to program without any software. Smaller than the FT-2980. At 14.5 volts - 15 volts DC the output power on high is 90-100w. It’s rated for 85w. Receiver is good, better intermod rejection than many Icom / Yaesu / Kenwood rigs. Transmit audio is also decent. Compared to my Yaesu FT-2980 it’s a bit less (subjectively) on the dynamic range side. I haven’t compared it on a bench or adjusted the mic gain. Narrow mode 2.5 kHz deviation is available, but not recommended for amateur radio service. Scanning speed is depressingly slow….but that’s to be expected. Built-in front-mounted speaker works very well. I do a lot of 2 meter simplex FM ... High power VHF FM mobile rig. Just make sure you wire the DC power to a source that can handle the amperage this thing needs. Also at lower DC voltage, do not expect the 85w rated output. 15.0 volts is what I run it at for 90, 95 and 100w output on 2m FM.
