        An Inspiring Depiction for Those Who Aspire

        This movie is magnificent! I was going to be teaching a class on Thomas Wolfe, and thought I'd see if there was anything I could show from the movie. The answer was a resounding YES: I could show the entire presentation. I had never been particularly impressed with Jude Law (I wouldn't be able to pick him out a crowd, for example), but what great feelings he brought forth as Thomas Wolfe! And Colin Firth--wasn't he a remarkable Mr. Darcy? Well, he was even better as the brilliant Maxwell Perkins (I even read a huge biography about him after viewing the movie). I love the idiosyncrasies: the constant wearing of the hat, his relationship with his daughters, and his firmness (when needed) with Mr. Law. I was enchanted.         The title was very apt , since both main characters were geniuses in their own rite.

        I throughly enjoyed the film. I had read some of each of the authors represented. I had no knowledge of the editor Max Perkins and found his story fascinating. Colin Firth’s portrayal was excellent and made the character very likable. Jude Law was amazing as Thomas Wolfe. It was his show. Jude’s zaniness against Colin’s soft laid back rendition was a great balance. Gary Pierce was very believable as Scott Fritzgerld. A very enjoyable film.

        Entertaining illumination of two men and their times.

        Literate and insightful. Very interesting story of nurtured genius and is, in effect, an engaging bio on both writer and editor. Good fleshing out of the times in which the interdependent creativity flowed. In sum, a great investment of movie viewing time.
