      • Must See Both in Proper Order

Considering both films together as a single entity, my favorite French movie. Gorgeous rural French countryside setting and simple down to earth characters. Gerard Depardieux in his youthful energetic prime with the bonus of his beautiful wife at the time Elisabeth playing....his wife in Jean de Florette part 1. Part 2 Manon of the Spring introduces Emmanuel Beart considered the most beautiful (young) woman in cinema when she won a Cesar award for this role. Nowadays we are bombarded with corruption in high places, and evildoers apparently immune from retribution or punishment. This movie exhibits the same issues of greed and dire behavior even among those who pinch pennies to survive. Good vs. Evil, which will triumph?

      • Wonderful stories.... surprising and fabulous ending

I saw Manon first..... Loved Emmanuelle Beart in this. Absolutely beautiful woman. I never realized that there was a first movie until after I'd seen Manon. After learning of Jean De Florette, I just had to see it. It was as wonderful as Manon and, of course, made the surprise ending in Manon, make sense. :) My advice.... Watch Jean first and then Manon. :D The movie is in French with English subtitles but I had no problem following it.
