        Cult favorite -- deservedly so

        This engaging and entertaining theatrical dromedy has become a cult favorite -- hence the high collector's price. It speaks highly of Canadian television, with its sophisticated script, well-drawn characters, and surprising events. Paul Gross is perfect as the director of a Shakespeare company (based loosely on Stratford), who is trying to overcome past demons in terms of former loves and his mental breakdown on stage. He is surrounded by great characters: the self-serving clueless company manager (Mark McKinney), the leading lady (his former love), the British seniors -- a gay couple who are old hands in the theater and who sing the delightful opening and closing songs, written especially for this production, in true Music Hall fashion.
