You'll be amazed at how quickly your cat can learn tricks. In most instances, it will only take a few learning trials before your cat is responding to verbal and gestural cues. Hey, your cat was already performing these behaviors - sit, roll, down, etc. Your cat just wasn't preforming these behaviors under stimuli of your choosing (verbal and gestural cues). This is what psychologists call stimulus control, and this is what makes it a trick. By applying a few basic behavioral principles in a structured way, you can communicate with kitty what behavior he or she should exhibit to get food (reinforcement).
