    About this product

    Product Information

It's spring 1941, and Great Britain is the only country in Europe yet to be defeated by the Nazi army, but all of that could change soon. The Nazis have launched their juggernaut battleship, the Bismarck, to close off British supply lines and ultimately invade England. A counterstrike is ordered, and with an arsenal of ships at their command, Royal Intelligence officers Jonathan Shepard (Kenneth More) and Anne Davis (Dana Wynter) fight desperately to destroy the Bismarck. Director Lewis Gilbert delivers a heartfelt docudrama about the courageous men and women of the British navy. Featuring actual war footage and a roller-coaster plot, the film is an unforgettable document of world history.

        excellnet movie

I saw this movie as a kid and have been trying to find it ever since. No one in pay-for view had it. The special effects are very good given the date that this film was made. Kenneth More does a very good job of portraying his character as does Dana Wynter. As we all know, the film is based on a true account of the British Navy trying to sink a very formidable battleship. The scenes from inside the gun turrets of both ships was done very well. All in all, it is a very good movie.

      • Title says it in a nut shell.

Engaging retelling of historic war time event. Showed cooperation of multiple British defense groups in reaching the final result.

      • Good historical fiction

Very sharp detail, good historical story. The part played by Kenneth More is very heavy drama, a little overdone in my opinion. Its like a historical movie with a soap opera side show. I think that was more of a direction problem than the performance given by More. I appreciate the fact that the German and English perspectives were both shown.

      • A great buy for a great movie!

Have wanted to own this movie for a long time. After ordering and watching it I am very glad to add it to my collection. I tend to watch old movies over and over just because they were so well made and I don't have to listen to language which certainly does not, in my opinion, enhance the movie. I shall be searching for more OLDIES like it! B.P.

      • Should have been on old Action Theater. ok9

This film is more history than Hollywood fluff. Actual film from the individual battles has been used to good effect. It's at once a classic sea story and a war movie. I truly hope to see this movie digitally enhanced and colorized
