Marlene doesn't play it cool, but still inhabits her character in a very entertaining way.

It's hard for me to be objective about this movie. Although Marlene plays a role unlike her most popular roles, she totally reminds me of the love of my life who passed away in 2017 from breast cancer. Although she was Mexican and Marlene plays Roma here, (gypsy), the same lust for life and love was there. I can't watch this without getting misty eyed and hope that someday I'll ride into the sunset in a caravan as she and Ray Milland do here. Otherwise, the plot is rather contrived and some of the attitudes are somewhat sexist and racist, but considering when it was made, it is pretty good fun.

  • Just hit the JACKPOT in entertainment!

Whenever you couple the legendary Marlene Dietrich with such a talented and handsome leading man as Ray Milland ~ you KNOW you've hit the "jackpot!" This movie has it all ~ including a GREAT ENDING!

  • great movie!!!

A usually strict soldier spy is forced to travel with a gypsy girl during WWII. He learns gypsy ways and learns to love them and the girl. During the journey, she pierces his ears and gives him gold earrings and disguises him as a gypsy. When he finally departs for home, he returns the earrings to her. After the war, he is sad and misses that life. She sends him the earrings, and he immediately realizes how much he has been missing the gypsy life and the girl. Ray Milland makes a fabulous gypsy!

  • Perfect

This film is a long time favorite and much loved. My favorite Marlene Dietrich picture. In L.A. it was shown on late night TV back in the 1980s This is not a piece of high art, it is just plain old romantic entertainment from back in the late1940s. How can you go wrong Dietrich and Milland?

  • Golden earrings is about a way of life endangered by the war.

An excellent classic movie . The stars actually hated each other with a passion , but you would never know; Great acting( Dietrich lived with gypsies to get this right).
