It's a Procurve, what more can I say?
The Procurve line of switches are a great alternative to Cisco for the small business that does not have the cash for Cisco. Or the home user who wants a super fast, reliable and completely configurable switch on their network. It only *seems* to have telnet, which if true, is a disappointment for a newer line switch. SSH would have been a better otion. But I have not dug in to far yet, so it might be there. (My SSH attempts thus far have been refused.) I do have to fight the Web GUI in Firefox/Linux a bit. It takes a minute or so to come up and then the tabs are usually missing until I refresh. Once it is all showing, it works great. You will need to hook up via the serial cable to give this an initial IP, if you do not run DHCP. For Windows users, check out Putty to telnet in. You ... You need to do terminal emulation, and I did not try Windows built in telnet application. Putty does work though. Linux users can just use a terminal window to telnet in. So far the switch has worked perfectly. I have not had a chance to see just how fast the switch is since I am rebuilding my Linux RAID 5 server. My guess is it will be near the theoretical limit of 125 MB. (My RIAD 5 will let me know as it can read at over 180 MB/sec and write at over 155 MB/sec) I will try and update this if I can/remember.
