  • Very positive recognition for WW11 effort-lives M.M.

My father served in M.M. as a Lt. (sparks)radio operator. These men and their ships served in both the Atlantic, Pacific, and Mediteranian delivering armaments, troops, parts for our equipment --- to win the war My Father's ship suffered attacks from enemy ships and air attacks He rapidly sent S.O.S and prayed for a continuation of their dangerous obligation as AMERICAN MARINERS FOR YEARS 1939-1945 and continued After the war's end to deliver goods - where and when needed around the world. In the U.S.A.we waited, sometimes for over nine months and prayed also. I 5 to 11 years - but HE WAS one who return to his Family and the U.S.A.

  • Excellent piece of lost history that should be it's own subject in school.

Brian Herbert definitely hits a home run with this historical piece on the United States Merchant Marine. The Merchant Mariner's were volunteers who gave more in percentage than any other branch of the U.S. Armed Defense in WWII and did it all without EVER getting properly repaid for their duties and were lightly armed if at all. No G.I. Bill, no insurance, no respect, yet they gave their all. Brian Herbert sheds light on so many different perspectives involving the Merchant Marine. Excellent book to read and share with others.

  • FORGOTTEN HEROS

As the proud son of U.S.Merchant Mariner I can remember telling people that when my dad was a young man in 1960 he was in the merchant marine and people would ask me what is the merchant marine.Forgotten Heros explains why people even to this day do not know much about the merchant marines. The book is about ww2 merchant marines and the job they did. They were right there with all the other services in the thick of it but after the war they received little credit for what they had done. This book explains the ups and downs of U.S. Merchant Seaman during ww2 and after the war.

  • Awesome gift for a Merchant Marine

My father was in the Merchant Marines and this was a gift for him. He LOVED it and has not been able to stop talking about those brave men. Thanks for the history.

  • .Wonderful Gift

My dad really loved it and it is a great resource for anyone who doesn't really understand what the merchant marines have contributed.
