    Ben Folds Five - The Unauthorized Biography of Reinh...

    Ben Folds Five's 'The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner' is a great album if you're a Ben Folds Five fan. It's darker and more intense than their previous efforts. Ben Folds is an amazing pianist and writer and knows how to rock you in ways you never thought possible with a three person band. Sure, there are other instruments and sounds as well, but the core three, Darren Jessee, Ben Folds, and Robert Sledge, keep on themselves on top, showing off their musical talents and leading the way through an album that you can't help but start at the beginning and listen all the way to the end. Ben Folds was definitely in a mood when he wrote this one. Other musicians in the album: Jane Scarpantoni - cello Antoine Silverman - violin Mark Feldman - violin Lorenza Ponce - violin Tom Maxwell ...

    A Quirky Classic

    Ben Folds Five's "The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner" has an offbeat sense of humor and drama that grows on you with each listen. The tracks are cohesive as an album (and that's likely why BFF played the album's songs straight through at their MySpace Front to Back reunion show), yet standout tracks like "Don't Change Your Plans" and "Jane" are lyrically poignant. "Army" is a lot of fun (though somewhat crass--always something to watch out for with Ben Folds' music), and "Regrets" may be even better along those lines. All in all, this is the BFF album that I would most recommend.

    Your Redneck Past

    This just might be Ben's finest recording. He seems to be having a lot of fun experimenting and staying true to himself by doing whatever the heck he wants. That's what I like about Ben...he doesn't put himself in a box. The result: his music always sounds interesting and fresh. If you like by Ben Folds, you should love this. If you have no idea who Ben Folds is, this is a great place to start. 5 Stars.
