About this product

Product Information

J.R.R. Tolkien's classic prelude to his Lord of the Rings trilogy featuring cover art by Caldecott Honor winning children's book illustrator Peter S s, this edition of The Hobbit has been specially formatted for young readers. Larger print size and wider margins provide reading ease for the youngest Tolkien fans. This quality digest edition also includes interior maps and original interior illustrations by J.R.R. Tolkien. Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely traveling any farther than his pantry or cellar. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard Gandalf and a company of dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an adventure. They have launched a plot to raid the treasure hoard guarded by Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon. Bilbo reluctantly joins their quest, unaware that on his journey to the Lonely Mountain he will encounter both a magic ring and a frightening creature known as Gollum.

  • In the Beginning A Ring Was Found

This is really a very old book. Tolkien wrote over sixty years ago. This tells the story of how the ring was found. It is the prequel to the Lord of the Ring trilogy. Many teenagers science fiction and fantasy lovers have ring this book in high school. There is an animated movie version of this book. There are many different printings of this book. Tolkien was a linguists and invented the elven language. Many of the creature created in his stories become source material for future fantasy stores. I enjoyed reading this books several times.

  • The Hobbit or there and back again

The book is boring and poorly written but if it had a different writer it could have been great.

  • The Hobbit--Perfect for all ages!

I read this book for the first time when I was 12. I'm 23 now and still love it more with each reading. Tolkein is a master storyteller, and I bought this book so that my 11-year-old niece can start enjoying Tolkein as much as I do. This is the perfect book to start a 10 year+ child on. I would recommend his book "Roverandom" for younger children--or those still children at heart!

  • The Hobbit

Very good book got my attention right from the beginning. Its full of action pack wants you to keep going and never put the book, easy to follow and not confusing.

  • Great story.

It is Tolkien, enough said! I had to buy The Hobbit since I just finished reading The Lord Of The Rings trilogy for the first time. I wanted to read The Hobbit before it comes out as a motion picture.
