About this product

Product Information

ANIMAL HOUSE is the film that launched National Lampoon as a comedy powerhouse. Developed by the editors at the Harvard Lampoon, the film is a collection of true-life experiences and memories with a great deal of embellishment. Nothing is sacred in this film, in which every gesture, phrase, and song became de rigueur in fraternity houses nationwide after its release. Decadence, debauchery, and delinquency prevail at Delta House, the scourge of the fraternity system at Faber College in 1962. In an effort to rid himself of the troublesome brothers, Dean Wormer (John Vernon) hatches a plan in cahoots with the brown-nosing Greg Marmalard (James Daughton) of rival fraternity Omega to have the Deltas kicked off campus. Unfortunately for them, the determination and drive of the Deltas is more than anyone counted on. In their last stand against the uptight dean, the antiheroes of Delta drink, smoke, romp, frolic, and dance--going out with a bang. This outrageous, much-loved comedy classic features the first major film role of the late, great John Belushi as John "Bluto" Blutarsky, the hard-partying, beer-guzzling champion of Delta house.

    Raunchy, Classic Belushi Comedy

Not for children, this R rated college fraternity movie is excellently led by comic actor John Belushi (now deceased). He is disgustingly hilarious, creative, and a truly bottom of the barrel student in the worst fraternity on campus. Toga! Toga! Their fraternity is pitted against the 1%-er students in their neo-nazi, snobbish, brown-nosing fraternity; and the straightlaced college administrator. Who will win- loose women, booze, destruction, and partiers; or the upright, rich, traditional success objects? This great, classic comedy is highly recommended for late adolescents and adults.

  • Great Movie

This is the best college comedy ever made. Nothing has ever come close to comedic perfection, and never will again. The early bird director John Landis directs this film into greatness bringing stars John Belushi, Tim Matheson, Tom Hulce, Mark Metcalf and Donald Sutherland to the screen in brilliance. True, this film is just about a bunch of misfits defying authority in a campus of 1962, but that's what makes it so good, and original. Belushi, Metcalf, and others bring many of the laughs here, but it is mainly it's reputation that brings this film into hilarity. A landmark in cinema comedy. By the way, screenwriters Harold Ramis and Chris Miller originally were going to make this a film about Charles Manson called Laser Orgy Girls, so thank god Douglas Kenney came in and straightened this ...

  • You dont have to rate a classic!

It's animal house! C'mon! there is nothing I can add to all of the reviews this movie has had over the years, the excellence in the comedy of Belushi, The fact that the cast at the time was considered newbies, one went on to be Amadeus, the other the female love interest on Indiana Jones, and others in multiple movies on the A and B scale, even on twisted sister music videos. I can go on and on. Hey did you know they made this movie in about 28 days?... There have been many knock-offs but none can hold a candle to the original. This movie is a must see for everyone, and if you don't like it! well then your no fun anyway and isolation from humor and people of humor is a good Idea for you..

  • la vie en noir

This classic movie was certainly a model for my college life. A fun movie that has it all; romance, adventure, suspense, horror, drama, tragedy, war and redemption. Oh did I forget comedy? And some big name stars in this, as well as a very young Kevin Bacon (for you 6 degree fans out there, he's the ROTC guy who gets run over by the crowd at the end). While, yes much of the humor is sophmoric at times (this is college life), many of the scenes in this movies have been used elsewhere. There is also a tenuous tie to the Van Wilder movie; the caracter played by Tim Matheson, (Otter), may be the father in Van Wilder, also played by Tim Matheson. There is also a hats off to this movie in Old School as well (the whole frat house thing).

  • Extravagant College Life

Let me first say that one of the reasons that I bought this film was because it was based on actual events that happened in the college lives of the writers, editors, etc. Another reason was that this film is apparently based on college life down at SIU (Southern Illinois University Carbondale), and having gone there, I can agree, a lot of crazy stuff happens there! The acting may have been a little cheesy at parts, but the viewer gets an actual feeling for who the characters are, and can likely relate to the characters on some level. Sure, not all of us have thrown keggers or cut up luxury cars, but we can all relate to at least one part of the movie or one characteristic of a character. Overall, this movie is hysterical, one of the best movies I have ever purchased! It reminds me of ...
